XPO Assisting in Vaccine Distribution Effort

Distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine is a massive operation for the logistics industry. XPO and many of its peers have risen to the occasion to ensure the vaccine arrives at points of use safely and on schedule. It’s all hands on deck for this once-in-a-generation undertaking.

With temperature-validated equipment and employees who are experts in life sciences and pharmaceutical logistics, XPO stands prepared to support the shipment of vaccines and related supplies. Some of the vaccines being developed must be stored and transported at strict, ultra-low temperatures, while others don't. In either case, XPO is ready.

Where the vaccine requires stringent temperature controls:

  • We have temperature-validated, highly-secure trucks in our Expedite business, with tracking capabilities available through our XPO Connect platform.
  • In our cold-storage distribution network, our technology helps vaccine distributors locate refrigerated trucks to transport the vaccine.

Where the vaccine doesn’t require cold storage:

  • We can move or facilitate the movement of vaccines throughout our transportation network.
  • We're able to efficiently store them in our supply chain distribution centers.

‘No Contact’ Delivery Policy in Place

Our LTL and Last Mile businesses have instituted a strict ‘no contact’ policy when making deliveries, with the exception of large household appliances. Since appliances are considered essential goods, we continue to offer delivery and installation services. In all other cases, our drivers now maintain a safe distance from customers when delivering freight, or they leave deliveries at the front door, in a garage or an alternate location. We’re also using digital verification with photographs as proof of delivery, which we send to customers instead of asking them to sign delivery receipt forms that could lead to transmission of the virus.
